AI assistant for osteoporosis patients

AI driven platform for delivery of patient health education and self management

Osteoporosis Project – Lydia Foundation
Problem:
  • There is strong evidence suggestive of inconsistent messaging to patients with osteoporosis (Royal Society of Osteoporosis 2023).
Solution:
  • To provide consistent information to patients that is in-line current guidelines and uses contemporary research.
  • A chat bot with retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and text to speech (TTS) capabilities was created for our client.

AI-ASSISTED FOOT DROP CALCULATION

Use of machine learning and AI technology to assist in shared decision making and provide patient centered care.

Ongoing research project at Queen Margaret University.
Problem:
  • Use of AI and machine learning to predict gait biomechanics metrics to aid in decision making for management of foot drop.
Solution:
  • Analysis of gait biomechanics using video from a smart device and validating this with industry gold standard VICON system used to visualize biomechanics in research. This validated machine learning program will then communicate with AI program that will help in creating management program for foot drop. This combines other on-going projects at QMU. We have completed building a prototype and product development is in progress.

AI-assisted Healthcare research

Use of AI in facilitating healthcare related research

Examples:
  • AI based application that helps with thematic analysis of qualitative health research. This helps the researcher to process large amounts of data efficiently. Currently, this is on-going at Queen Margaret University.
  • AI assisted systematic review using PRISMA guidelines – this project is under-development and undertaken independently by our own team. We will aim to validate this application by an independent source and publish this research in a peer reviewed journal on completion.

Learning Simulation APP

Use of AI and machine learning in facilitating healthcare teaching

Examples:
  • Under-development a learning simulation application that will use AI and augmented reality technology to enable medical students and healthcare professionals to interact with a virtual patient.
  • This enhances learning and helps to create real-life clinical scenarios in class environment or for independent self-directed learning.

Use of Generative AI to follow prompt and provide a detailed response.

Examples:
  • Under-development large language model application that will be trained on 7B data parameters to start with.
